United Progressive Party (UPP) candidate Adrian Williams says there is “a great hunger for change” among voters in St John’s City South, as he outlined plans to expand economic activity and empower small businesses within the constituency.

Speaking during a campaign interview, Williams described his bid as “a very interesting campaign”, noting that entering the race as the newest candidate has presented challenges. However, he said strong public support has given him confidence.

“There’s a lot of momentum and a lot of positive energy in this campaign,” he said, adding that constituents have responded enthusiastically during canvassing.

Williams said residents are eager for development after years without significant change, and are “waiting in anticipation” of what his candidacy could bring.

He has proposed expanding commercial activity beyond Market Street towards Independence Avenue, creating what he described as an extended hub of commerce. His plan includes encouraging cottage industries by enabling residents to sell locally made products such as food items to tourists.

Under the proposal, side streets would be developed into walk-through spaces aimed at drawing visitors deeper into the community, providing direct economic benefits to homeowners and small-scale entrepreneurs.

Williams also outlined plans to support agriculture by making land available to young people, particularly school leavers, with access to water and other resources to help them become more self-sufficient.

He said the overall goal is to transform St John’s City South into “a viable marketplace of commerce and commercial activities”, driven by local participation and enterprise.
