A tourist visiting Antigua has described being robbed at Valley Church Beach, prompting swift action by police who arrested a suspect within minutes of the incident.

The visitor reported that their bag was stolen last Tuesday while they were at the popular west-coast beach. Writing on social media, they said an orange Toyota Vitz was used as the getaway vehicle.

Although officers detained a man shortly after the robbery, the tourist said none of their belongings were recovered.

According to the account, the visitors were “the second tourist to have their bag stolen in 10 minutes,” raising concerns about a spate of thefts at quieter beaches frequented by holidaymakers.

Police reportedly searched the suspect in front of the victims, discovering another tourist’s wallet in his bag. That wallet was returned to its owner.

The tourist urged others not to take valuables to secluded beaches, saying they hoped their experience would help prevent similar incidents.

Local authorities have not yet released an official statement regarding the arrest or whether the thefts are believed to be linked.
