Prime Minister Gaston Browne has urged the people of Antigua and Barbuda to aim higher and unite as the nation embarks on a new year.

Speaking at the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving, he reflected on the country’s achievements in 2024 and outlined goals for continued progress in 2025.

During the event, Mr. Browne referenced Psalm 150:6, calling for all to give thanks regardless of political affiliation. He welcomed the participation of opposition members, describing the day as a national institution that transcends partisanship.

Mr. Browne reviewed the country’s economic performance in 2024, reporting a 6% expansion and improvements in the banking sector.

He recalled the challenges faced a decade ago when Antigua and Barbuda’s banking system was the worst-performing within the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.

He noted that domestic banks posted combined profits exceeding $100 million last year.

Tourism arrivals also saw an upturn, and the government was able to address several longstanding developmental issues. While acknowledging that challenges remain, Mr. Browne expressed confidence in further progress during 2025.

He called on citizens to increase their contributions to national development, encouraging ambition across economic, social, environmental, and spiritual areas. He said the government had set a clear vision for the future and urged unity in achieving the country’s goals.
