PM Rejects Political Motive Claims in Removal of Pringle’s Morris Bay Tent

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has rejected claims that the removal of a tent belonging to Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle at Morris Bay was politically motivated, saying the action was the result of planning enforcement and not partisan targeting.

Speaking on the Browne and Browne show on Pointe FM, Browne said the matter stemmed from breaches of development control rules and longstanding concerns raised by the Development Control Authority (DCA) about unauthorized construction in the area.

The prime minister said Pringle had previously been warned about improper siting of structures at Morris Bay, including concerns related to planning approval and environmental considerations. Despite those warnings, Browne said construction continued.

Browne rejected suggestions that the enforcement action was selective or intended to punish the opposition leader, insisting that planning regulations apply to all individuals, regardless of political office. He said no one is above the law and that elected officials are not exempt from compliance with development rules.

The prime minister further argued that Pringle had adopted a posture suggesting that nothing could occur in Morris Bay or Old Road without his consent, a stance Browne said was inconsistent with lawful governance and regulatory authority.

According to Browne, the removal of the tent followed established enforcement procedures under the DCA and should not be framed as political victimization. He said attempts to portray the matter as persecution were misleading and risked undermining respect for regulatory institutions.

The Morris Bay incident has drawn public attention amid broader debate over development enforcement, political accountability and equal application of the law.
