Veteran anaesthetist Dr Olubukola Ogumbyi retires after 40 years of service

Consultant anaesthetist Dr Olubukola Ogumbyi has retired after more than four decades in the medical profession, ending a career that has had a significant impact on healthcare in Antigua and Barbuda.
Dr Ogumbyi began her medical career at the former Holberton Hospital, where she worked as a paediatric house officer.
She later established herself as a respected anaesthetist, recognised by colleagues for her professionalism, calm approach in the operating theatre and dedication to patient care.
During her 40 years in medicine, she supported numerous surgical procedures and helped mentor younger doctors entering the profession.
Colleagues say her knowledge, leadership and compassion contributed to shaping standards within the medical community.
Many healthcare workers have also expressed gratitude for her guidance, noting that her mentorship influenced several generations of practitioners.
Tributes shared following her retirement praised her long service and the example she set throughout her career.
