UWIFIC Guild of students to Host Inter-Campus Guild Council Meeting in Antigua

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus Guild of Students is set to host the Inter-Campus Guild Council (ICGC) Meeting next week in Antigua, bringing together student leaders from across the region under the theme “Beyond the Council: A New Order of Leadership.”
The week-long meeting will span five consecutive days, welcoming delegates from all five UWI campuses, including Cave Hill, Mona, St. Augustine, Global Campus, and Five Islands. The gathering represents one of the most significant regional student leadership engagements for the academic year, aimed at strengthening collaboration, shared governance, and forward-thinking advocacy among UWI’s student bodies.
As the host campus, UWI Five Islands will play a central role in facilitating discussions, workshops, and strategic planning sessions focused on leadership development, student representation, and policy-oriented proposals that can be implemented across all campuses.
Guild President of the UWI Five Islands Campus, Kerron McKenzie, emphasized the importance of the meeting as more than just a routine council engagement

“This meeting goes beyond formalities. It is about building meaningful regional connections, strengthening unity among campuses, and laying the groundwork for sustainable initiatives that will benefit students across the entire UWI system,” McKenzie stated.
He further noted that the ICGC provides a unique opportunity to share best practices, address common student concerns, and collaborate on fruitful proposals that can be adapted to meet the diverse needs of each campus while maintaining a unified regional vision.
A key focus of this year’s meeting is the concept of legacy-building within student governance. Discussions will center on ensuring that decisions made today create long-term value, continuity, and institutional memory within guild leadership structures.
The hosting of the ICGC in Antigua also underscores the growing role of the UWI Five Islands Campus in regional student leadership and governance, positioning it as an emerging hub for collaboration, dialogue, and innovation within the UWI network.

The UWI Five Islands Campus Guild of Students views the Inter-Campus Guild Council Meeting as a pivotal moment—one that reaffirms the importance of leadership with purpose, regional solidarity, and a commitment to leaving a lasting legacy for future generations of UWI students.
