UPP MPs Called Out for Lying About Anthony Smith Amid Allegations of Corruption
Members of Parliament (MPs) from the United Progressive Party (UPP) have been harshly criticized for their deceitful treatment of Anthony Smith, a former party member. Smith, who left the UPP months ago, has accused certain party figures of deliberately working to stifle his political career, casting doubt on the integrity of the party’s leadership and practices.
Anthony Smith’s departure from the UPP came after what he described as a series of manipulative and undermining actions aimed at damaging his reputation and hindering his chances of winning in future elections. According to Smith, his primary “sin” was his decision to run against Gisele Isaac in the UPP’s convention for the position of chairman. His challenge was met with resistance from key party figures, including Isaac and Jamal Pringle, which led Smith to feel isolated and betrayed within the party.
Smith claims that after the convention, Gisele Isaac and Jamal Pringle ceased communication with him, despite his attempts to reconcile and move forward. He reached out, hoping to mend relationships and foster unity within the party, but his efforts were rebuffed, leaving him feeling ostracized.
Smith revealed that there was an orchestrated plot to force him out of the party. It was discovered that a party lawyer and a costume maker were involved in the deceptive efforts.
There were claims that the convention itself was rigged. Some members of the party were reportedly bribed with “dutty money” (a term used to describe illicit payments) and other incentives, including a luxury car—a BMW—in exchange for their votes.
The situation took another turn when prominent figures within the UPP began retracting their earlier statements about Smith. Peter “Redz” Harriet, who had previously dismissed Smith’s claims, reversed his position and publicly acknowledged that Smith was right all along.
This admission by Harriet has further fueled the debate about the legitimacy of the convention and the party’s internal workings. Additionally, two other key figures, Algernon “Serpent” Watts and Kelvin “Shuggy” Simon, have now come forward to support Smith’s version of events.
Initially, both Watts and Simon had aligned themselves with the party’s narrative, backing the legitimacy of the convention and dismissing Smith’s accusations. However, they have since reversed their stance and concurred with Smith’s claims, adding weight to his allegations of manipulation and corruption within the UPP.
One of the most vocal critics of the UPP’s handling of Smith’s situation has been social media icon “Jtruth the Engineer.” Jtruth, who has a large following on various platforms, expressed outrage over how Watts and Simon used their influence to spread misinformation and protect the party’s interests. According to Jtruth, both Simon and Watts initially lied about Smith’s claims, using their platforms to defend the party’s unethical practices.
Now that Watts and Simon have admitted the truth, Jtruth is furious about how the truth was suppressed for so long at the expense of Smith’s reputation. “They used my platform to spread lies about Anthony Smith, and now they’re backtracking? This is a betrayal of everythingu I stand for,” Jtruth said in a social media post. His followers have rallied behind him, demanding accountability and transparency from the UPP.
