U.S. Government Supports STEM Camp for Youth in Antigua and Barbuda

The U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean is proud to partner with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda to support the groundbreaking STEM InFuSED(Innovative Future Sustained) Summer Camp aimed at inspiring and educating youth in Antigua. The U.S. government is funding travel for two American professors from Dakota State University to teach at the camp. The professors have expertise in computer science, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.  This initiative underscores the commitment of both governments to foster innovation and empower the next generation of leaders in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.

The camp, scheduled to take place from July 15 to August 16, will be hosted at the Sir Novell Richards Academy in St. Georges Antigua, and is designed to provide hands-on learning experiences in various STEM disciplines. Participants will engage in interactive workshops, experiments, and projects facilitated by leading experts and educators in the field from the United States and Antigua and Barbuda.

“The U.S. Embassy is delighted to collaborate with the Ministry of Education on this transformative initiative,” said Tamara Shaya Hoffmann, Public Diplomacy Officer at the U.S. Embassy. “By investing in STEM education, we aim to equip Antiguan and Barbudan youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the 21st-century economy. We hope the exposure to world-class American professors will also encourage students to consider studying in the United States.” The Ministry of Education of Antigua and Barbuda has welcomed the partnership with enthusiasm, recognizing the importance of STEM education in preparing students for future careers. The STEM camp is expected to reach over 250 participants aged 8 to 21 years from across Antigua and Barbuda, ensuring a diverse and inclusive learning environment. Participants will have the opportunity to explore fields such as robotics, coding, environmental science, and more, under the guidance of mentors who are passionate about STEM education.

This initiative is part of broader efforts by the U.S. Government to promote educational exchanges and capacity-building in Antigua and Barbuda. By nurturing young talent and promoting STEM literacy, both governments aim to contribute to the long-term socio-economic development of the region.
