Two Charged After Soca Sangria Vandalism Appear in Court

Two men charged in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins and acts of vandalism during the Soca Sangria event on November 2 returned to court earlier this week before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel, where their cases took different turns.

The accused, 19-year-old Richards and 26-year-old Simon, are facing several charges linked to damage and theft reported that night. Prosecutors allege that car windows were smashed and property stolen, including a jeep key, Versace perfume, lotion and AirPods, with the total value estimated at $977. That case has been put off until June 2.

Both men are also charged with causing thousands of dollars in damage to vehicles, including broken glass and damage to mirrors and bumpers.

In one case involving damage valued at $3,750, Richards denied the charge and it was later withdrawn. Simon admitted the offence and was ordered to pay $3,750 in compensation within two months or face a one-year prison term if the payment is not made.

Other charges connected to the incident remain before the court and have been adjourned to May 20 and May 26.
