Two Antiguan Students Selected for Prestigious Caribbean STEM Programme

Two Antiguan students have been selected to participate in the 2026 Student Programme for Innovation in Science and Engineering (SPISE), earning the opportunity to study alongside some of the Caribbean’s top young STEM scholars.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology announced Friday that Ajenai Charles and Kha-Lique Harris were chosen for the highly competitive programme and will travel to Barbados this weekend to complete its residential component.

In congratulating the pair, the ministry described them as exceptional young Antiguans who will represent Antigua and Barbuda while engaging in advanced studies and collaborative learning with students from across the region.

“We wish them every success as they continue to represent Antigua and Barbuda with pride,” the ministry said in a statement.

According to the ministry, SPISE is an intensive programme that combines university-level instruction with leadership development and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The initiative is designed to prepare high-achieving Caribbean students for future careers in STEM fields.

Charles is a graduate of Christ the King High School and an International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) student at Island Academy International. Harris is a graduate of St. Joseph’s Academy and is also pursuing the IBDP at Island Academy International.

The ministry said their selection reflects the country’s continued commitment to academic excellence and the development of young innovators.
