Top prizes including 50-inch smart TV announced for Antigua’s Got Talent winners
The winner of next month’s highly anticipated Antigua’s Got Talent show will walk away with a brand new 50-inch smart TV, courtesy of headline sponsor Townhouse Megastore.
Organisers of the December 14 event being staged at Lucky Eddi’s in English Harbour have also announced runner-up prizes of an overnight stay at the luxurious Gunpowder Suites and day passes at Carlisle Bay for the second and third placed contestants.
The third edition of the popular competition, which aims to raise vital funds for the PAAWS animal shelter, is now less than four weeks away.
More than a dozen entrants have signed up to date.
“There are still places left and we want to encourage anyone with a talent – whether it’s singing, dancing, spoken word or something totally unexpected – to come forward and register,” said PAAWS’ PRO Gemma Handy.
“We are extremely grateful to Townhouse for being our headline sponsor this year. The lucky winner will walk away with a fabulous new TV, just in time for Christmas. We also have exceptional prizes for the runners-up, plus a host of luxurious items to be won with our raffle which is being drawn on the night.
“Every cent raised will go directly to the PAAWS shelter in Parham which is currently caring for 58 dogs and 28 cats, all looking for a permanent home.
“The shelter runs entirely on donations and all the money we collect will help us help more animals in need of a second chance at life.”
Edward Mansoor, Townhouse Megastore’s General Manager, said the company had a long history of supporting local animal charities.
“Animals are an integral part of our society and it’s important we do all we can to help them. Too often, people see an animal suffering on the road and don’t recognise it as being a life,” he said.
“We are honoured to support the talent show and we fully endorse the work PAAWS is doing.”
The contest is open to all non-professional performers aged 16 and over, who will get the chance to showcase their talent in a spectacular venue complete with professional stage, lighting and PA system.
The event is once again being hosted by Ibis the Livest and entrants will perform before a live audience and panel of celebrity judges who will be revealed within the coming days.
The 2022 Antigua’s Got Talent crown was claimed by soca singer Stephen Gore who will open the show and hand over the title. The inaugural edition – held in 2019 – was won by young singer Ajanae Bleau.
The show starts 8pm sharp. Entrance is EC$20 for adults, children free.
The deadline for registration for performers is December 10. The fee is EC$20. Call or WhatsApp 789-2662.
PAAWS has provided a safe haven for neglected, abused, injured and abandoned dogs and cats since 1996. It is a registered friendly society.
Its Parham-based shelter has successfully rehomed more than 3,000 animals over the years. It is currently caring for 58 dogs and 28 cats, all looking for a forever home.
All pets that are old enough are spayed/neutered, micro-chipped and vaccinated before being rehomed.
PAAWS exists solely on donations and is always grateful for cash donations, along with dog and cat food and medication.
PAAWS is open to visitors Tuesday to Saturday from 10am-2pm.
