These young individuals, DeAndre Samuel, Uchenna Oam, and Elise Henry, represent the bright future of Antigua and Barbuda.
D’Aundre Samuel 2023 Top CSEC Student was awarded for his remarkable academic journey, culminating in being named the 2023 top CSEC student in Antigua and Barbuda. Born on December 5, 2006, DeAndre’s passion for learning was evident even before preschool. Nurtured by his parents, Phil and Aline Pay Samuel, along with the support of his village community in Barnes Hill, he demonstrated a strong commitment to his studies from an early age. Throughout his time at Grace Christian Academy and later St. Joseph’s Academy, he consistently excelled, participating in various spelling competitions, quizzes, and debates. His academic journey peaked in 2023 when he emerged as the top CSEC student, achieving outstanding results. He was also named valedictorian of his class and received numerous accolades, including the Prime Minister’s Award of Excellence and the National Platinum Award for Academic Excellence. DeAndre’s journey reflects his dedication and hard work, making him a role model for students across the nation.
Uchenna Ohaegbulam 2024 Top CSEC Student, born on December 8, 2008, also made headlines as the top performer in the 2024 Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examinations, securing an impressive 24 subjects. Uchenna’s academic dedication is mirrored in his passion for public speaking, where he gained recognition for his participation in regional and local competitions. As a student of St. Joseph’s Academy and now Island Academy International, Uchenna has balanced his academic life with sports, serving as a goalkeeper for his school’s football team. His well-rounded character and determination have earned him respect, and he remains committed to encouraging his peers to challenge themselves and pursue their dreams without fear.
Elyze M. Henry Top National Assessment Student, the youngest honoree, was born on July 3, 2011. A first-form student at Baptist Academy Antigua, Elise has shown a deep passion for singing from a tender age, often serenading her family with songs from Disney’s Frozen. Her love for music extends to her participation in the Pentecostal worship team, Sunday school ministries, and youth dance group. Elise’s joy for life is also evident in her leisure activities, which include baking, spending time at the beach, and caring for her cat, Meow Meow. With a strong belief in the importance of discipline, Elise embodies the drive for greatness even at a young age.
