The UWI FIC Frigate Male Basketball Team

The UWI Five Islands Campus made its historic debut at The UWI Games 2026, experiencing the highs and lows of collegiate competition as the Frigates claimed victory on the basketball court while suffering a defeat on the cricket pitch.

In male cricket, Five Islands posted a competitive 143 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs after batting first against The UWI Mona campus. Asher Cornelius was the top scorer, anchoring the innings with a commanding 81 runs. However, The UWI Mona proved too strong in reply, dispatching the target with remarkable efficiency. The Mona Campus raced to the total in just 12.3 overs, reaching 144 for 2 to secure a comprehensive eight-wicket victory.

Five Islands rebounded emphatically on the outdoor courts, dismantling The UWI Global Campus 67-34 in the male basketball competition. The lopsided margin signalled a strong performance from the Frigates in their first-ever appearance at the Games.

The Five Islands campus will look to build momentum heading into Day 2, where the Frigates are scheduled to compete across four disciplines: lawn tennis, table tennis, male football and male volleyball.

The UWI Games 2026 marks a milestone moment for the Five Islands Campus, based in Antigua and Barbuda, as it competes for the first time on the multi-campus stage. The Games bring together students from across the UWI system in a celebration of sport, school spirit and regional unity.
