The Seventh-day Adventist Community is pained by the loss of young Chantel Crump. We wish to express our profound sadness over these recent developments in our nation of Antigua and Barbuda and offer heartfelt condolences to the family members who are left to mourn. We are appalled and disgusted by the senseless and brutal abduction and murder of an innocent infant. In some ways, this is a reflection of the level of perilous times to which we have sadly come.

Today, Saturday, March 15, the Seventh-day Adventist Community celebrates Global Youth Day. While we always have a strong emphasis on the youth, on this day, we allow them to “be the church” by intentionally going into the community and sharing food, giving blood, providing health education, and performing many other acts of kindness. It is one of the ways we demonstrate that youths are making a difference. As we leave the church buildings today and mingle in the various communities, we remember young Chantel and her grieving family. We will offer prayers for the family and also for the nation. We will call upon God to intervene in the crime and to help our people to live godly lives.

To Chantel’s family, we wish for you to know that we weep with you. We offer our prayers and support. We stand ready to provide grief counseling and any other form of help that may be necessary. May God comfort you in this moment of crisis and may God help our nation.

Dr. Carson L. Greene
President, South Leeward Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.
