Tason Jones pleads guilty to cannabis charges; co-defendant walks free

Tason Jones pleaded guilty Monday to drug charges after police found four and a half pounds of cannabis in his possession, while charges against his co-defendant were withdrawn.

Jones admitted to possession with intent to transfer and possession with intent to sell when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel. The cannabis, seized on Jan. 16, was valued at about EC$27,000.

Jones had initially faced four charges alongside co-defendant Noemi Paula. Paula pleaded not guilty, prompting prosecutors to drop all charges against her. The remaining charges against Jones were also withdrawn following his guilty pleas.

The court granted Jones bail of EC$35,000, with EC$5,000 in cash and two sureties. He must report to the Grays Farm Police Station three times weekly, surrender his travel documents, and is barred from leaving the jurisdiction.

Jones is scheduled to return to court for sentencing on Feb. 24.
