A Swetes man has been fined $30,000 after admitting to possessing over 140 grams of cannabis during a routine police patrol.

Rondre Robinson, 21, was sentenced in the District B Magistrate’s Court. Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel ordered him to pay the fine within 18 months or face a two-year prison term.

The drugs, with a street value of $1,425, were discovered during a police patrol near Seaview Farm Primary School on January 8. Officers stopped Robinson’s vehicle after noticing it had no front license plate, and its occupants were not wearing seatbelts. A subsequent search uncovered five plastic bags containing cannabis, which Robinson claimed as his.

This is not Robinson’s first offence. He has an outstanding $25,000 fine for a previous cannabis possession charge, with $8,000 still unpaid. The court granted him a six-month extension to clear the balance.

Robinson, a car washer, was represented in court by attorney Michael Archibald. The confiscated drugs were ordered to be destroyed.
