Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) has joined the global observance of World Cancer Day under the theme “United by Unique,” highlighting the individuality of each cancer journey while stressing the shared responsibility to improve prevention, care and outcomes.

The hospital said the theme recognises that while no two cancer experiences are the same, patients, families, healthcare workers and communities remain united in the fight against the disease. As the country’s national referral hospital, SLBMC reaffirmed its commitment to compassionate, patient-centred cancer care grounded in clinical expertise and respect for individual needs.

SLBMC emphasised that awareness and early detection remain the most effective tools in reducing the impact of cancer, encouraging the public to take part in recommended screenings, seek medical advice early and maintain open communication with healthcare providers.

The hospital also paid tribute to its oncology doctors, nurses and support staff, acknowledging their dedication to ensuring patients are supported and cared for throughout their treatment.

SLBMC said it remains committed to strengthening cancer services and working with partners to deliver high-quality care that reflects both the unique experiences of patients and the highest standards of dignity and care.
