𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗶𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗕𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗲 (SLBMC), now under the capable leadership of Dr. Serena St. Luce. The Ethics Committee provides expert guidance when unresolved ethical concerns emerge, whether for the healthcare team, the patient, or their family. The Ethics Committee offers thoughtful recommendations that can help in making informed decisions about care.

𝗘𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗯𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:

Uncertainty about who should make healthcare decisions for patients who are unable to communicate their preferences.

Conflicts between personal values or religious beliefs and recommended treatment options.

Disagreements regarding the initiation, continuation, or cessation of treatments (e.g., the use of breathing tubes or feeding tubes).

Moral distress arising from a healthcare decision.

Complex medical scenarios that present ethical concerns.
