Senator Joseph Praises Police Constable for Quick Action in Apprehending Suspect

Senator Michael M. Joseph has commended Constable Akilah Grant, a recent graduate of the Sir Wright F. George Police Academy and a member of the St. John’s Rural West community, for her swift and courageous response in apprehending a man accused of snatching jewelry from a tourist in St. John’s on Saturday.

“Constable Grant has demonstrated a strong commitment to protect and serve. Her efforts led to the apprehension of a man who snatched jewelry from a tourist in St. John’s. We are deeply proud of you as you continue on this new journey of service,” Senator Joseph remarked.

Attorney General and Public Safety Minister, Hon. Sir Steadroy Benjamin, also praised Constable Grant for her bravery.

Despite sustaining injuries while subduing the suspect, she successfully prevented his escape and has since received medical treatment.

Sir Steadroy credited the increased police presence in the city for enabling swift responses to such incidents.

Another graduate of the Police Academy, Constable Jeremiah Clarke, was commended for maintaining his professionalism during a tense encounter with a motorist.

A viral video showed Clarke remaining composed while issuing a ticket for an alleged traffic violation, even as the motorist hurled insults.

Sir Steadroy highlighted these officers’ actions as evidence of the high standards instilled during their training. He expressed gratitude to the Police Administration for their dedication to preparing officers for the demands of the job.
