Senate of Antigua and Barbuda is scheduled to meet Today

The Members of the Upper House will be debating the following Bills:

  1. The Fatal Accidents Bill 2026
  2. Magistrate’s Code of Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2026
  3. Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill 2026
  4. Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Bill 2026
  5. Advanced Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record Bill 2026

The Motions under consideration for the House are:

  1. Resolution for the acquisition of land for a public purpose, specifically for the construction and establishment of a secure access and exit route, and
    related public infrastructure serving the National Performing Arts Centre.
  2. Motion relating to the Governor General’s Opening of Parliament on Tuesday 26th May 2026 and delivery of the Throne Speech.

The Fatal Accidents Bill 2026 seeks to modernize the existing law relating to actions for damages in regard to fatal accidents and repeals the Fatal Accidents Act, Cap 166.

The Magistrate’s Code of Procedure (Amendment) Bill 2026 amends section 38 of the Magistrate’s Code of Procedure Act, CAP 255 in relation to the issuing of search warrants.

The Electronic Crimes (Amendment) Bill 2026 amends section 18 of the Electronic Crimes Act 2018, specifically the provisions regarding Production Orders and the penalties for non-compliance.

The Immigration and Passport (Amendment) Bill 2026 seeks to provide for the granting of amnesty to persons who wish to have their immigration status regularized.

The Advance Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record Bill 2026 makes provision for the collection, transmission, sharing, storage and regulation of Advance Passenger Information and Passenger Name Record in respect of persons traveling to, departing from and transiting through Antigua and Barbuda in accordance with international best practices.

The above mentioned Bills and Motions were passed in the House of Representatives on Tuesday 16 June 2026.

During that sitting the House of Representatives also moved and passed various resolutions and motions including:

  1. Ratification of the addendum to the Multilateral Competent Authority Agreement on Automatic Exchange of Financial Account Information.
  2. Ratification of the amendment of the Constitution of the International Labour Organization 1986.
  3. Ratification of the Agreement between the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and the Government of the United Arab Emirates on the conditions of the mutual exemption of entry visa requirements for citizens of Antigua and Barbuda and the United Arab Emirates.
  4. Ratification of the Protocol Amending Articles 50 (a) and 56 of the Convention on International Civil Aviation signed at Montreal on 6 October 2016.
  5. Appointment of a Public Accounts Committee, according to Section 98 of the Constitution of Antigua and Barbuda.

MP Hon. Anthony Smith Jr – Member for All Saints West
