Salinity Levels Rise for Some Customers After Fault at Barnacle Point Water Facility

The Antigua Public Utilities Authority has issued a water service advisory after a fault at its Barnacle Point facility led to increased saline levels in parts of the public water supply.
APUA said the issue involves a high-conductivity intrusion at the facility, which may cause some customers to notice saltier-than-normal water. Technical teams are conducting tests and flushing distribution lines as work continues to restore and maintain water quality standards.
Areas potentially affected include Barnes Hill, Carlisle and Cassada Gardens, as well as communities served by the Cassada Gardens Booster Station from Friars Hill North to Boons Point. Other impacted locations include Coolidge, areas supplied by the Grays Hill Reservoir from St. John’s City to Five Islands, New Winthorpes, Paynters, Piggotts west of the playing field, Potters West, Scotts Hill Reservoir and surrounding communities.
APUA apologized for the inconvenience and thanked customers for their patience as crews work to resolve the issue.
