UPP leader Jamale Pringle delivered a defiant speech at a political meeting last night, responding to calls for his resignation by declaring that he remains steadfast in his leadership of the United Progressive Party (UPP) despite facing attacks from political enemies. In an impassioned address, Pringle told supporters that the criticism he faces is part of a concerted effort to undermine both him and the party, but he vowed to remain resolute.

“They have thrown everything at me, thinking I would break, but let me tell you this, I am still standing,” Pringle said, as the crowd erupted in applause. “Our enemies launch their attacks night after night, spewing venom across the airwaves. They think they can destroy the UPP, but I have news for them—I am not moving.”

Pringle acknowledged that he has been under pressure to step down, but rejected those calls, reinforcing his commitment to the party and the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

“I will not resign, brothers and sisters. I will not back down,” he asserted. “They fear us because we are strong, and that’s why they attack me, but I am here to stay.”

Pringle painted the criticism against him as a direct response to the UPP’s growing influence, claiming that the ruling Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is threatened by the party’s potential resurgence.

Pringle, who has been facing increasing calls for his resignation, rejected those demands and vowed to continue leading the UPP, which he described as stronger than ever.

“They think they can destroy the UPP, they think they can get me to abandon you, the people of the United Progressive Party and the people of Antigua and Barbuda,” Pringle said to the cheering crowd.

“It is the fear they have of you—the people—that drives these attacks,” Pringle declared. “They know we are on the verge of taking over. They know the change is coming, and they will stop at nothing to try to hold us back.”

Pringle’s remarks come amidst heightened political pressure, with opponents criticizing his leadership and calling for new direction within the party. Despite this, Pringle framed these attacks as part of a broader effort by his political enemies to undermine both him and the UPP.

“They launch their attacks night after night, spewing venom across the airwaves. They think they can get rid of me, but I have news for them: I am still standing,” Pringle said. “I will not resign. I will not back down.”

Throughout his speech, Pringle positioned himself as a resilient leader forged through political warfare. He detailed his journey from representing his community to becoming the leader of the UPP, emphasizing that he has faced constant opposition but remains committed to fighting for the people of Antigua and Barbuda.

Pringle’s defiant tone struck a chord with the audience, as he rallied his supporters to stay united behind the UPP in their fight for change.

“It is the fear they have of you that drives their attacks,” he claimed. “They know we are on the verge of taking over, and that’s why they are throwing everything at us. But we are strong, and we will prevail.”

In addition to defending his leadership, Pringle addressed key national issues, including the economic deficits, infrastructure failures, and the state of public utilities.

However, it was his response to the political attacks against him that dominated the evening, as Pringle used the moment to reaffirm his loyalty to the UPP and his determination to lead the party into the next election.

“I am serving you, the people of Antigua and Barbuda, and I will not stop until we see real change in this country,” Pringle concluded. “Let them tire themselves with their lies and schemes. I will remain your leader, and together we will march forward to victory.”
