Pringle Accuses PM Browne of Evading Accountability by blaming the Opposition for Alfa Nero Subpoenas

Pringle Accuses PM Browne of Spreading Misinformation and Evading Accountability
Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has accused Prime Minister Gaston Browne of spreading misinformation and refusing to take responsibility for his government’s handling of the Alfa Nero controversy.
Speaking on Observer Radio on Saturday, Pringle said, “Nothing Gaston Browne does surprises me. That’s who he is.”
He criticized the Prime Minister for attempting to blame the United Progressive Party (UPP) for the fallout from the sale of the Alfa Nero yacht, rather than confronting the allegations directly.
“He’s spreading some information and I nearly can bet you, you might hear Gisele and I, we’re charged for some reason or the other based on the things that he’s saying out there,” Pringle said.
Pringle argued that Browne was using the opposition as a scapegoat. “This is not about the United Progressive Party, Jamale Pringle or Gisele Isaac. This is about Antigua and Barbuda,” he stated.
He warned that the Prime Minister’s approach could have serious consequences for the country’s reputation, particularly if international sanctions were imposed.
“If they blacklist us, that everybody suffers whether you’re ALP or UPP,” he said. “I don’t think people understand the seriousness of this situation.”
Pringle also challenged the Prime Minister’s claims that the opposition was colluding with external actors.
“Now that the fallout has come, the government wants to shift blame instead of accepting accountability,” he said. “Accountability is not a word in his vocabulary.”
He questioned how any court would base its rulings on allegations of collusion against the opposition.
“Which court is going to grant subpoenas based on what Pringle says or Gisele said or any one of us who he is accusing of collusion?” Pringle asked.
He urged citizens to see through the distraction tactics and recognize where the true responsibility lay.
“The reality of the situation is that Gaston Browne needs to take responsibility for his actions,” Pringle said.
