Prime Minister Browne calls for the strengthening of Economic and Commercial relations between CARICOM and India
Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda the Hon. Gaston Browne has called for an increase in economic and commercial relations between the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Republic of India. Prime Minister was speaking at the 2nd CARICOM-India Summit which took place on Wednesday 20th here.
During his presentation, Prime Minister Browne referred to India’s long-standing relation with the Region, and expressed his sincere gratitude for the bonds of friendship that existed between CARICOM and India.
Prime Minister Browne further thanked India for its tremendous act of goodwill in the provision of vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Antiguan and Barbudan leader praised Prime Minister Modi for his leadership in transforming the Indian economy, which is poised to become the third largest in the World by 2030.
He remarked that with an enhancement in economic commercial cooperation, it is the desire of the Region to see further investment and direct trade from India.
He further called for a CARICOM-India investment forum to explore numerous trade and investment opportunities.
Prime Minister Browne also called for India’s support for the SIDS Center of Excellence to assist in acquiring the necessary technologies to close the data gaps which would assist in effective planning and the optimal management of our natural assets.
Moreover, the Prime Minister extended thanks on behalf of CARICOM to India for its provision of concessional climate funding through the Caribbean Development Fund (CDF).
