Police in Dominica continue to arrest anyone vocally opposed to the ruling administration



Dominica police have arrested several individuals following a protest in Roseau on March 19 that escalated into clashes with police, including the use of tear gas and rock bullets, injuring several.
Among those arrested are former MPs Hector “Spags” John and Daniel “Danny” Lugay, along with Paula Celestine, Samuel Durand, JnoBaptiste “Balo” Charles, Bernard Moreau, Imran Joseph, Siri Defoe, Clementina Mitchel, and Moses Prosper.
John, Charles, and Durand have been charged under the Public Order Act for unlawfully and riotously assembling to disturb the peace. They are set to reappear in court on June 25, 2025. Bail was granted to John and Charles at $30,000 each, but Durand was denied bail and remanded. His lawyers plan to appeal.
