Police Constables Commended for Exemplary Performance of Duty
On Monday, Police Commissioner, Mr Atlee Rodney commended constables Jeremiah Clarke and Akilah Grant for their professionalism and exemplary performance of duties over the weekend.
On Saturday, December 28, Constable Clarke was on duty in the city issuing a ticket for a traffic violation, when an irate motorist began hurling several expletives at him.
Despite the driver’s disrespectful behaviour, Clarke kept his composure and professionalism and focused on performing his duty.
Meanwhile, Constable Grant received commendations for her brave and swift response in apprehending a suspect involved in an alleged robbery.
Around 9:45 am on Saturday, a visitor reported that he was assaulted and robbed of his gold chain while walking in St. Johns.
Constable Grant, who was on duty, saw the suspect, 56-year-old John Richardson of Perry Bay fleeing the scene and gave chase.
He was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. Grant sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and discharged.
Commissioner Rodney congratulated both officers and encouraged them to stay committed to duty.
He implores them to be good examples for their peers and others to emulate.
The commissioner also thanked the public for supporting the efforts of the police, as they work to ensure the safety and security of everyone.
Grant and Clarke are recent graduates of the Sir Wright F. George Police Academy and are attached to the traffic department.
