PM Browne Says Recent U.S. Visit Disproves Claims of U.S He’s Wanted in the U.S

Prime Minister Gaston Browne says his recent trip to the United States, including being escorted by U.S. Secret Service agents, proves longstanding claims that he was unable to enter the country were false.
Speaking on Pointe FM, Browne said political opponents had repeatedly claimed over the years that he was wanted by U.S. authorities or that his visa had been revoked.
“So when they said, for example, ‘I was wanted by the US government and I couldn’t go to the United States,’” Browne said, recalling allegations circulated ahead of previous elections.

He said similar claims resurfaced during the recent general election campaign.
“Remember, they used the same thing again this election, saying that my visa was revoked,” Browne said.
Browne told listeners that his latest visit to New York contradicted those allegations, noting that he was provided official security protection by U.S. authorities during the trip.
“Now, the interesting thing about it: The very United States government provided me with security,” Browne said. “So I had Secret Service meet me at the airport. I had several Secret Service agents accompany me everywhere I went.”
He added that security officers were stationed outside his hotel during the visit.
“I had one outside the hotel where I slept,” Browne said, while acknowledging that such arrangements are standard for visiting prime ministers.
According to Browne, members of the public were surprised to see him travelling freely to the United States after years of online speculation.
“A lady, as soon as I stepped out yesterday, said, ‘Wait, I thought they said you can’t go to the United States because they revoked your visa,’” he recounted.
The prime minister argued that repeated allegations against him had been politically motivated and amplified through social media and opposition attacks.
He said many voters had been influenced by misinformation during previous election cycles, particularly during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Practically everything that was said at the time going into the 2023 elections, though not true, people believed them,” Browne said.
Browne recently travelled to New York for a series of international engagements linked to the Global Citizen NOW initiative, where he participated in discussions on climate resilience, renewable energy, sustainable development financing and global justice.
During the visit, he also held meetings with philanthropic, clean energy and policy leaders ahead of Antigua and Barbuda’s hosting of the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.
