Browne Hints at Snap Election Amid UPP Turmoil

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has warned he may call a snap election if the United Progressive Party (UPP) fails to address its internal struggles, marked by recent high-profile departures.

Speaking to State Media at Minister Rawdon Turner’s swearing-in ceremony, Browne stated, “I would be more inclined to call a general election if the UPP doesn’t get its act together.”

The Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) recently retained the St. Peter constituency in a by-election following the tragic death of independent MP Asot Michael, who had won the seat after splitting from the ABLP.

While elections are set for 2028, the Prime Minister holds the authority to call them earlier.
