Prime Minister Gaston Browne, marking his government’s 10th year in office, highlighted key achievements under the ABLP administration, focusing on asset recovery and economic growth.

“Under the ABLP’s leadership, we have acquired ownership of critical assets like the West Indies Oil Company and our water supply, securing them for the public good,” PM Browne announced.

He noted the recovery of 10 acres of beach property at Valley Church, valued at $27 million, which had been corruptly sold by the previous United Progressive Party (UPP) administration for $1.

Browne criticized the UPP’s infrastructure management, stating, “The UPP reportedly spent $1.4 billion on roads, yet all were in poor repair when we assumed office in 2014.”

Since then, the ABLP administration has repaired most main roads and accelerated the community road program, investing $21 million in heavy equipment and machinery for the Public Works Department.

He highlighted investments in reverse osmosis plants, modern port facilities, and expanded electricity services, which have bolstered the country’s infrastructure and economic growth.

“We have reduced unemployment significantly, fostered a thriving tourism sector, and established a University of the West Indies campus here,” Browne said.

Browne emphasized the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, stating, “We did not seek bailout funds from the IMF; we managed to steer our nation through these times, ensuring health and economic stability.” He cited a post-COVID growth rate of 7.5 percent per annum.

He concluded by noting, “Antiguans and Barbudans earn more per head of population than most countries in the region, without paying personal income tax. Our economy is growing at a rate second only to Guyana in this hemisphere.”

PM Browne’s address highlighted a decade of progress and resilience under the ABLP’s leadership.
