PM Browne Criticizes UPP Chairman for Continued Use of Revoked ‘Dame’ Title
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has openly criticized United Progressive Party (UPP) Chairman D. Gisele Isaac for continuing to use the honorific “Dame” despite its official revocation.
The criticism arose after Isaac was referred to as “Dame” during a UPP awards dinner held in celebration of Antigua’s Independence.
Speaking on Pointe FM over the weekend Browne stated, “Up to this day the woman has no dameship, remember that it was revoked.”
“Up to this day, she’s so brazen ‘she ah cal she self dame”.
Browne was referring to the controversial knighting of Isaac in 2014 by former Governor General Dame Louise Lake Tack.
The new Browne administration said the honors given to her and others were revoked.
Isaac previously served as Speaker of the House of Representatives and held several positions in the UPP administration and now serves as the party chairman.
