Prime Minister Gaston Browne has hailed the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party’s (ABLP) decisive victory in the St. Peter by-election as a “monumental achievement” that reaffirms the party’s strength and connection with the electorate. Speaking on Pointe FM, Mr. Browne congratulated ABLP’s candidate, Rawdon Turner, for his resounding win and reflected on the significance of the outcome.
“This was a thorough victory,” the Prime Minister said. “It’s a testament to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the ABLP team and the unwavering support of the people in St. Peter. The result speaks volumes about the trust and confidence voters have in our leadership.”
Mr. Browne took the opportunity to critique the opposition United Progressive Party (UPP), which he described as being in disarray. He pointed to the absence of key UPP figures during the campaign as a sign of internal divisions and waning influence.
“When you have a candidate standing all alone on the campaign trail, with no significant support from party leadership, it tells you everything you need to know,” Mr. Browne remarked. “This defeat is a reflection of the UPP’s inability to connect with the people and provide a credible alternative.”
The Prime Minister also highlighted the emotional toll the loss appeared to have on the UPP’s candidate, claiming that the result was a humbling experience for the opposition.
During his remarks, Mr. Browne credited the ABLP’s success to its record of delivering tangible benefits to the people of Antigua and Barbuda. He noted that voters in St. Peter recognised the party’s efforts to foster development, improve infrastructure, and promote economic growth.
“Our government has been working tirelessly to uplift this country and its people,” he said. “This victory is a clear indication that our message is resonating, and the people see the progress we’re making.”
The Prime Minister also spoke about the ABLP’s future plans, emphasising the party’s commitment to fulfilling its promises and addressing the needs of constituents. He expressed confidence in Mr. Turner’s ability to deliver for the people of St. Peter and strengthen the ABLP’s representation in Parliament.
“Rawdon Turner has demonstrated that he is a true servant of the people,” Mr. Browne said. “I am confident that he will be an exceptional representative for St. Peter and will work diligently to bring about meaningful change.”
The victory in St. Peter solidifies the ABLP’s position as the dominant political force in Antigua and Barbuda. Mr. Browne suggested that the win sends a clear message about the party’s readiness to govern and its ability to win any constituency.
“This victory is not just about St. Peter; it’s about reaffirming our strength as a party,” he said. “We are ready to take on any challenge and continue serving the people with integrity and vision.”
The Prime Minister thanked voters and party supporters for their unwavering commitment, calling the victory a shared achievement for the ABLP and the nation as a whole.
