Prime Minister Gaston Browne hailed the selection of Antigua and Barbuda as the host for the OAS 55th General Assembly in June 2025 as a testament to the nation’s rising global prominence.

He emphasized that the decision, made by acclamation at the OAS 54th General Assembly in Asuncion, Paraguay, underscores the country’s increasing significance on the international stage.

Browne praised Ambassador Sir Ron Sanders for his influential and respected contributions to the OAS, noting, “Our people should be proud of the impact Antigua and Barbuda has on regional, hemispheric, and international affairs.”

Colombia had also bid to host the assembly but withdrew, clearing the path for Antigua and Barbuda. This marks the second major international conference for the country, following the successful SIDS4 conference.

Browne highlighted the readiness of the American University of Antigua’s state-of-the-art conference center, which will host the OAS event. He called for a national effort and the involvement of volunteers, mirroring the successful organization of the SIDS4 conference, to ensure the success of the OAS General Assembly.
