PM Browne Blasts Opposition Figures for Alleged Collusion in Alfa Nero Case

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has accused senior opposition members of conspiring with a foreign lawyer to damage the reputation of Antigua and Barbuda, calling their actions “treasonous”.
Speaking at a political rally on Friday night, the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) leader alleged that United Progressive Party (UPP) figures, including MP Jamale Pringle and UPP Chair D. Gisele Isaac, were cited in court documents filed by a US-based attorney in connection with the Alfa Nero yacht case.
Mr Browne described the legal manoeuvre as a “fabrication” designed to gain access to his personal financial records in the United States. “They made up a lot of lies about this country seeking to literally destroy the reputation of our country,” he told party supporters.
The Prime Minister insisted that no official litigation had been filed against him or his government. “This is not a case. There is no ruling, there is no trial. What they have done is go to a US court with fabrications, asking for access to my bank accounts and those of my associates,” he said.
The Alfa Nero, a superyacht seized in Falmouth Harbour under US sanctions, has been the subject of intense legal and political scrutiny over the past year. Mr Browne has consistently rejected accusations of wrongdoing relating to the vessel or its sale.
Mr Browne said that providing foreign entities with unverified information that could harm the country’s global standing amounted to betrayal. “There are some who believe that treason only involves when you plot and kill a leader. But when you plot and kill the reputation of a country—that is treason,” he declared.
He further warned that the actions of the opposition could have far-reaching consequences for the nation, including damage to its international banking relationships and potential sanctions.
As of Saturday morning, neither Mr Pringle nor Ms Isaac had publicly responded to the Prime Minister’s remarks.
Mr Browne called on citizens to “stand against” those he accused of attempting to destabilise the country, characterising the UPP’s approach as a strategy to “rule or ruin”.
He said: “They want to plunge this country into crisis in the hope that they can grab power. But we will not allow them to destroy our beautiful country.”
