PM Browne Advocates for Cleaner Public Spaces and Property Responsibility
Prime Minister Gaston Browne has called on citizens and property owners to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean and orderly public spaces, as part of the government’s plans to enhance community environments in 2025.
In his New Year’s address, Browne criticized indiscriminate littering and unauthorized vending, urging citizens to adhere to existing laws.
“No one has the right to litter or to vend in public spaces without permission,” he said, adding that persistent violations would result in stricter enforcement of regulations.
The Prime Minister also announced plans to address the issue of derelict properties and vacant lots in residential areas. Legal measures will be implemented to demolish neglected structures and clean up lots, with property owners bearing the cost of these actions.
“Our government will institute a policy of land swaps and purchases for these lots to reduce health and security risks to residents,” Browne explained.
Browne appealed to property owners to cooperate with the government in making communities cleaner and more attractive, emphasizing the shared responsibility for maintaining public spaces.
“We plead with our people to cease indiscriminate littering and unauthorized vending,” he stated, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in improving the nation’s appearance and safety.
The Prime Minister’s remarks form part of a broader vision for sustainable development and community well-being, reflecting the government’s commitment to creating a more harmonious living environment for all citizens.
