Prime Minister Promotes ‘Peace Beach’ Concept at Barnacle Point

Prime Minister Gaston Browne has unveiled plans for a proposed “Peace Beach” at Barnacle Point, describing it as a project that would combine coastal protection, marine conservation, environmental education and public recreation.

In a social media post, Browne said the site would be the “first ever created beach with living reef marine habitat creation,” while also serving as a tool for coastal protection and education.

Concept drawings shared by the prime minister show plans for a landscaped beachfront featuring native vegetation, coconut trees and West Indian almond trees, along with picnic areas, public beach huts, educational signage and a pavilion structure.

The proposal also includes the creation of artificial reef modules and a marine education snorkel trail designed to support marine life and provide learning opportunities for visitors.

According to the concept plans, the project would incorporate signage outlining what are described as the “Peace Principles,” including non-violence, mutual respect, cooperation, dialogue, tolerance, inclusion, compassion and shared responsibility.

Other elements shown in the designs include a viewing deck, shaded seating areas, marine conservation displays and a breakwater extension intended to enhance coastal resilience.

Browne said the initiative is intended to blend environmental restoration with community education and recreation while promoting values associated with peace and cooperation.
