Opposition Leader Jamale Pringle has expressed his grief following the first homicide of 2025, offering condolences to the families affected and urging the nation to reflect on violence and its impact on communities.
Speaking at a rally in Parham on Thursday night, Pringle revealed a personal connection to the 35-year-old victim, a resident of Old Road. He described the young man as someone with hopes and dreams for the year ahead, tragically cut short in an altercation.
“To the victim’s family, my heart and prayers are with you,” Pringle said, extending his sympathies to the alleged perpetrator’s family as well. “Both families are enduring immense pain during this time.”
The incident occurred at Mount Obama (formerly Boggy Peak) on Thursday morning. Police have confirmed that the victim was allegedly shot during a dispute. A male suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Pringle used the tragedy to call for a broader focus on addressing the societal challenges that contribute to such violence. He pointed to the need for improved community support and leadership that prioritizes public safety and well-being.
Law enforcement officials continue to gather evidence and piece together the circumstances surrounding the incident. Updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
Pringle’s remarks at the rally resonated with attendees, many of whom shared his concern about the state of violence in Antigua and Barbuda. As the new year begins, the incident has sparked renewed calls for action to prevent similar tragedies and foster a safer society for all.
