Nonagenarian Author Releases Bonus eBook With Insights Into Antigua and Barbuda’s History
Miriam Samuel a 90-year old author, educator, entrepreneur and agro-processor has released a bonus ebook titled “Collective Strides Towards a Legacy of Nation Building.” She describes Antigua and Barbuda’s political independence as an important milestone in our history, along the continuous journey of nation-building.
In her inspiring 10-page book, she chronicles some of the triumphs of nation-building by highlighting untold narratives, personal memories and historical landmarks. These include women’s suffrage in 1951 and her own first vote in 1956, her grandfather’s contributions to the groundbreaking Wallings Dam project, and the empowerment of local farmers in 1943 after the failure of Antigua Syndicate Estates Limited to fully pay for certain lands like Diamonds Estate.
Earlier this year, Miriam released her book “Mirie’s Magic Recipe: Loving, Leading, Legacy,” which is a memoir of her life story. She embarked on her transformative ‘Legacy Book Tour,’ to Anguilla and the U.K. She joined forces with esteemed Caribbean genealogist, Dr. Timothy Hodge, and unearthed a wealth of untold stories that intertwined history with the present.
“There is a limit on how much detail you can put in a book and still remain focused on the main story. So this ebook is like an “Independence bonus”, reinforcing some of the history and activities that were not fully captured in my book. It demonstrates that through small acts of kindness and community service, every citizen can play a role in our nation’s growth and development,” Mrs Samuel said.
