Antigua and Barbuda is set to meet its national water demand by September 2025, Prime Minister Gaston Browne announced in his New Year’s address. The government has outlined a comprehensive strategy, including increasing production capacity to 13 million gallons per day and addressing existing challenges with infrastructure and staffing.

“An additional $110 million is being invested in water infrastructure, alongside the upskilling of staff involved in production, distribution, and maintenance,” Browne said.

The Prime Minister highlighted that production capacity had already increased by five million gallons per day, marking progress toward the government’s goal. He acknowledged ongoing inconsistencies in water supply in certain areas, describing the issue as complex but resolvable.

“These are not simple problems; they require time, money, and committed staff. All of this is being addressed,” Browne stated.

As part of the initiative, the government is focusing on modernizing infrastructure and ensuring a long-term solution to the water supply challenges. Browne assured citizens of his administration’s determination to resolve the issues permanently.

“We are determined to resolve these issues once and for all,” he said.

The water infrastructure improvements form part of a broader effort to enhance public services and support national development.
