Securing school transfers for children will be particularly difficult this year, as the Ministry of Education has frozen all student transfers following the release of the Grade 6 National Assessment results and secondary school placements.

Director of Education Clare Browne stated that transfers will only be considered for placement errors, such as assigning a student from Freetown to St. Mary’s Secondary School.

The top 100 students can choose their preferred schools, while others are placed based on geographical proximity, school capacity, or special educational needs.

This year, 1,288 students took the exams, and public schools cannot accommodate all of them. Browne noted, “Thankfully, private schools can accommodate some students, and some families will choose private education.”
