Dwayne George Declares Antigua Carnival 2026 Open

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua and Barbuda — Minister of Sports and Creative Industries Dwayne George officially declared Antigua Carnival 2026 open on Saturday, marking the start of the country’s annual festival with the Opening of Carnival and T-Shirt Mas.

The opening celebrations began at 2 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m., with an official ceremony on Parliament Drive before revellers took to the streets for T-Shirt Mas.

According to the official parade route, floats, steel bands, cultural characters and contestants assembled on Parliament Drive for the opening ceremony. T-Shirt Mas participants started near the T.N. Kirnon School on Old Parham Road before making their way along Simon Bolivar Drive, Factory Road, Parliament Drive, Queen Elizabeth Highway, Independence Avenue, Redcliffe Street, Thames Street and High Street before returning to Old Parham Road.

The official Carnival schedule shows celebrations continuing through Aug. 4, with major events including Junior Carnival on July 26, Rhythm Court Vibe on July 27, Patrice Roberts’ I Am Woman concert on July 28, Caribbean Melting Pot on July 30, the Cavalier Rum Calypso Monarch on July 31, Panorama on Aug. 1, J’Ouvert and Monday Mas on Aug. 3, and the Parade of the Bands and Last Lap on Aug. 4.

Antigua Carnival 2026 is being celebrated under the theme “Feel the Rhythm.”
