Michael Freeland Pays Tribute to Teacher Gen’s Life and Legacy


Senator Michael Freeland delivered a heartfelt tribute to Teacher Gen, describing her funeral as a moving reflection of a life devoted to love, faith, and service.

In a Facebook post, Senator Freeland highlighted the “overwhelming show of love” at the ceremony, calling it “a true reflection of the life we gathered to celebrate and the legacy she leaves behind.”
Her daughter, The Rev. Denise Smith-Lewis, also paid tribute, noting that Teacher Gen “stood firmly for family and community, and clearly understood her life’s assignment.”
Hon. Anthony Smith Jr. eulogised his grandmother as “a remarkable life, a beacon of love, faith, and inspiration to all,” adding that her home had long been “a sanctuary for the abandoned… a place where unconditional love, structure, and discipline transformed lives.”

Senator Freeland concluded by praising Teacher Gen as “a true matriarch whose wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to our children and community will never be forgotten.”
The funeral drew citizens from across Antigua and Barbuda, highlighting the enduring impact of Teacher Gen’s decades of dedication to education and community development.
