LETTER: We are Not the Same Since Chantel Crump’s Murder

I am writing as a concerned mother, deeply affected by the tragic news surrounding Chantel Crump’s abduction and murder. Each day when my children leave for school, I find myself holding them a little tighter, praying for their safety more fervently than ever before. The heartbreaking reality is that Chantel could have been my daughter or yours.

The fear that now permeates our community is palpable. Parents are walking on eggshells, particularly those of us who rely on school buses for our children’s transportation. The recent events have shaken our sense of security, leaving us anxious and uncertain about the safety of our children.

Even with Angela, the alleged killer, behind bars, we are left with lingering questions. Did she act alone? The reality that there may be others like her at large is terrifying and keeps us awake at night.

This tragedy has changed the way we live in Antigua and Barbuda. We must come together as a community to advocate for our children’s safety and demand accountability. It is time for us to engage in meaningful discussions about how we can protect our children and restore peace of mind to parents everywhere.

In light of these events, I urge our leaders and law enforcement to take decisive action, to implement measures that ensure the safety of our children both at school and in our neighborhoods. We cannot afford to remain silent; our children deserve better.
