LETTER: Pearl Quinn-Williams’ recent appointment to the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda has been marred by controversy

Pearl Quinn-Williams’ recent appointment to the Senate of Antigua and Barbuda has been marred by controversy. It’s been alleged that she made conflicting promises to different factions within the United Progressive Party (UPP), telling the Richard faction she’d support them, while also assuring the Pringle faction of her backing, traits of a real leader, hmmm.

What’s more, Quinn-Williams reportedly informed her branch members that she was “playing it safe” and that no one should know who she actually voted for. This lack of transparency and alleged duplicity are serious red flags for a leader.

Maybe I should say blue flags.

To make matters worse, it’s been claimed that Quinn-Williams was promised a senatorial position by the Pringle faction in

exchange for her support. This raises questions about her integrity and whether she’s truly fit to hold public office. A position in the Senate has a price tag these days?

Given these allegations, it’s reasonable to question whether Pearl Quinn-Williams has the leadership qualities and integrity required to serve in the Senate. Her apparent willingness to make conflicting promises and prioritize personal gain over transparency and accountability are not the hallmarks of a strong leader

The United Progressive Party’s (UPP) latest move to welcome Pearl Quinn-Williams to their inner circle has raised eyebrows. Why Pearl Quinn?  Not forgetting the shenanigans used to move Shawn Nicholas. It appears that UPP’s

puppet master, Chairman D. Gisele Isaac, and her new puppet, Jamal Pringle, are more interested in loyalty than winning ability. This is evident in their decision to bring Pearl on board, despite her questionable character.

Pearl’s reputation as a fake and a pretender is not new. Her sister, Jaqui Quinn, was once a UPP minister, but the people of St. George soon discovered her true nature and rejected her. It seems that Pearl is cut from the same cloth. She is not a people person and has a tendency to look down on others, a trait that runs deep in her family.

Despite her polished debating skills and smooth lip service, Pearl’s true colors will eventually be exposed. The people of Antigua and Barbuda are not easily fooled,

and they will see through her facade. It’s clear that Pearl is not good for politics, and her appointment to the Senate is a mistake.

The UPP’s decision to prioritize loyalty over winning ability is a recipe for disaster. By welcoming Pearl to their inner circle, they are sending a clear message that they value loyalty over competence and integrity. This is a worrying trend that does not bode well for the future of the UPP and Antigua and Barbuda. But we love being in opposition!
