Please allow me some space on your portal to make a plea to the authorities in question to carry out a feasibility study of converting some of the roads to a one way, in the Gray’s Green community.
Antigua has now become a country of an influx of vehicles. These vehicles are not only utilizing our narrow roads to commute but the owners of these vehicles are at the same time parking their vehicles at the roadside.
It is obvious that our roads in certain communities were built many moons ago to accommodate bicycles, donkeys & horse & carts as the main means of transportation. As a result, the construction of wide roads was not necessary then and the parking of these forms of transport at the roadside was not necessary neither.
As the economy grew, many persons are now finding it convenient to have their vehicles parked at the side of the road because of the limited yard space they have, on their house plot.
Due to these parked vehicles, traffic jams are very prevalent & accidents are on the rise especially on Federation Road in Gray’s Farm.
The traffic flow in the Gray’s Green community, is one such area that needs to be addressed sooner than later. The narrowness of the main road especially during peak hours are causing a considerable degree of traffic congestions & unnecessary accidents.
I have listed some of the roads within the area that I think that can be considered as one way…
King Obstinate Drv & Federation Rd: These roads should allow traffic to flow from east to west only
George Street: This road should allow traffic to flow from east to west only.
Armstrong Road: This road should allow traffic to flow from North to South only.
Christian Street: This road should allow traffic to flow from South to North only.
Gray Hill main road : This road should allow traffic to flow from west to east only.
Road by the magistrate court should allow traffic to flow from North to South only.
Joseph Lane should allow traffic to flow from east to west only.
The Perry Bay Drive & the Kentish Road should continue to be a two way and use as the main arteries to enter into St. John’s from the community.
