A jury found Shawn Mussington guilty of murder today in the fatal stabbing of his ex-partner, Simone Whyte-Barrington.
Whyte-Barrington, a Jamaican hairdresser, was killed at an event at her workplace on Market and Tanner Streets on November 14, 2020.
During the trial, witnesses described a turbulent relationship between the pair, with Shawn Mussington continuing to make advances despite Whyte-Barrington’s rejection. Mussington testified that he was abused by her and blamed alcohol for his actions, while his lawyer argued the abuse led him to stab her.
Mussington apologised in court, stating he truly loved Whyte-Barrington.
He will remain in custody until sentencing by Justice Tunde Bakre.
