A Jamaican national has been remanded in custody after police seized cannabis valued at approximately EC$360,000 during an operation at V.C. Bird International Airport.

Benjamin Isaiah Carrington, 38, was arrested on Sunday following a joint exercise involving the Narcotics Department, the K-9 Unit and the Customs Enforcement Unit. Officers found 19 sealed packages of cannabis weighing 60 pounds in two suitcases in his possession.

Carrington appeared without legal representation before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel. Prosecutors argued that he posed a flight risk, citing the seriousness of the charges and his lack of ties to Antigua and Barbuda. The court ordered that he be remanded.

He faces five charges, including drug trafficking, importation of cannabis, possession with intent to transfer, being concerned in the supply of cannabis and simple possession.

He is due to return to court on 6 May 2026.
