Inconsistencies Emerge in Police Testimony as Christian Murder Trial Continues

Differences in police evidence and procedural issues were highlighted in court as the trial into the killing of Customs officer Nigel Christian continued.

Two officers gave evidence under cross-examination, where details of a July 10, 2020 encounter between one officer and Christian were outlined, including a minor traffic collision earlier that day before the reported kidnapping.

The officer confirmed previous service in the Defence Force and access to military uniforms but said he could not recall whether he had any in his possession at the time. He denied any involvement in a conspiracy.

A second officer acknowledged that his written statement incorrectly indicated that physical items had been shown to an accused during questioning, clarifying that only photographs were presented. He also confirmed that aspects of the investigation, including the timing of crime scene processing, could have been handled differently.

The court also heard evidence relating to interview procedures, including whether legal representation was present at all stages.

During re-examination, the prosecution clarified that legal representation had been present and that interview notes reflected the use of photographs rather than physical evidence.

The trial continues before Justice Rajiv Persaud.
