Hundreds attend St John’s redevelopment consultation

Hundreds of people turned out for a public consultation on the proposed redevelopment and revitalisation of St John’s, with many more following the discussions online and on local television.
Prime Minister Gaston Browne said he was encouraged by the level of participation, describing the engagement at the Sir St Luce Centre on Wednesday evening as “great”.
He thanked stakeholders and residents for their contributions, saying the strong interest reflected public support for the government’s plans to renew the capital.
The consultation brought together Cabinet ministers, including Attorney General Sir Steadroy Benjamin, Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez, Works Minister Maria Browne and Urban Development Minister Rawdon Turner, along with representatives from several government agencies.

Officials from APUA, the Development Control Authority, the Central Board of Health, the National Solid Waste Management Authority, St John’s Development Corporation and Antigua Cruise Port were also present.
The prime minister said the government remained committed to ongoing engagement and would return to the public for further consultation once the master plan for the redevelopment of St John’s is finalised, stressing that stakeholder involvement is essential at every stage of the process.
