Government Printery Workers Stage Second Day of Sit-In Over Unsanitary Conditions

Workers at the Government Printery have staged a second day of protest, holding a sit-in over what they say are deteriorating and unsanitary conditions inside the facility.
Staff, who have been on half-day shifts during ongoing retrofitting work, report that pigeons have begun nesting in the roof, leaving droppings on desks, documents and printing equipment. Employees say the situation has created an unhealthy environment and prompted the industrial action.
Sources say the department’s Permanent Secretary has held discussions with management and the Public Works Department to address the issue. When Antigua.news visited the compound on Tuesday, Public Works personnel were seen carrying out repair work as efforts continued to resolve the problem and restore normal operations.
