Freeland promises greater accessibility and dialogue through “Community Connect” initiative
Barnes Hill, Antigua – March 27, 2025
Michael Freeland, the newly confirmed Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) candidate for the St. George constituency, has pledged to bring a new level of accessibility and engagement to his campaign and future representation.
Speaking at a lively thank-you rally in Barnes Hill on Wednesday night, Freeland announced plans to launch a community outreach programme called “Community Connect”, promising the first town hall meeting within the next three weeks.
“We have lots of things to discuss and lots of work to do,” he told supporters. “Now is the time for us to act.”
Freeland also committed to opening a constituency branch office in the coming week. He said the office will operate with dedicated hours for residents to meet with him directly, share their concerns, and help shape future plans for the area.
“By next week, I will be in my office to meet and greet every one of you—hear your stories, hear your frustration—because that is the job: to serve you, the people,” Freeland said to applause.
The initiative marks a key shift in approach, emphasizing transparency and consistent dialogue between the candidate and constituents. Freeland, who grew up in the area, said the idea for open office hours and regular town halls came directly from feedback he received while developing his community-driven manifesto.
“I can’t do the things I want to do without the people’s buy-in,” he said. “You’ve bought in, and you’ve said this is a solid promise.”
Freeland’s pledge comes amid a broader push by the ABLP to energize its base with younger, locally rooted candidates who prioritize direct communication with constituents.
The rally also featured appearances by senior ABLP officials and fellow candidates, with Freeland stressing party unity and the strength of the ABLP team heading into the next general election.
Supporters welcomed the candidate’s announcement, with many expressing hope that the promised town halls and open-door policy will result in more responsive and people-centered governance in St. George.
